Eyebrow Hair Transplants Become Popular In Connecticut

Women who have had a hard time putting down the tweezers when it came to their eyebrows may be excited to learn about a solution.

Patients have been turning to new procedure that, according to a Connecticut doctor, can restore over-plucked eyebrows.

Experts say that “thin” isn’t “in” anymore, so a lot of women are looking to unpluck what they’ve plucked.

“They had that nice pencil look, so you looked perpetually angry,” said Dr. Dana Brownell, medical director at NeoGraft Hair Restoration of CT in Westport.

From Hollywood to Connecticut, a procedure called “NeoGraft” removes individual hair follicles from one part of the body for targeted placement in another spot.

“Typically the NeoGraft success rate is between 95 to 98 percent,” said Brownell.

The special system involves no scalpels, stitches or scarring, just some local anesthesia and a machine that extracts the follicles that will be implanted in the eyebrows.

“There is typically a bit of swelling that patients deal with post-procedure and that can last between three to seven days,” Brownell said. “Everybody’s a little bit different.”

Once healed, patients start to see the results.

“You are going to have to trim the hairs after they set,” Brownell said. “They’re still going to grow a little bit long.”

For the procedure, the follicles are taken from the back of your hair.

“That hair is genetically predetermined never to fall out,” Brownell said.

That would make it a permanent fix above the eyes.

During the consultation period, Brownell sits down with patients to create a blueprint for the new eyebrows.

“They bring in a lot of before pictures,” Brownell said. “Some patients bring in pictures of celebrities, typically Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie.”

Eyewitness News spoke with one of Brownell’s patients, who wished to remain anonymous.

“You pretty much get that youthful, natural look that you used to have so it doesn’t look anything like bizarre,” the patient said. “Usually what I get is ‘you look great!’ So they don’t really know.”
